TRC20 vs ERC20 Wallet Address – Key Differences
Two of the most commonly used USDT networks are TRC20 (TRON) and ERC20 (Ethereum). Understanding the difference helps you avoid costly mistakes when sending or receiving funds.
Address Format
- TRC20: Starts with T, 34 characters (e.g., TRjE1H8dxypKM1NZRdys…)
- ERC20: Starts with 0x, 42 characters (e.g., 0x8eE…3F1a)
Transaction Fees
- TRC20: $0.001–$0.01 per transaction
- ERC20: $1–$20+ depending on Ethereum network congestion
Transaction Speed
- TRC20: Usually confirmed in under 1 minute
- ERC20: A few minutes to over 30 minutes during peak periods
When to Use Each
Use TRC20 for everyday USDT transfers, freelancer payments, and exchange withdrawals where low fees matter. Use ERC20 when interacting with Ethereum-based DeFi protocols or platforms that only support Ethereum.
Never send TRC20 USDT to an ERC20 address, or vice versa. Funds sent to the wrong network are typically unrecoverable.
